Sade was born on January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria as Helen Folasade Adu. She was previously married to Carlos Scola.

Daughter Mickalia "Ila" Adu was born on July 21, 1996. Father is producer Bob Morgan.

Her father, Adebisi Adu, is Nigerian, and her mother, Anne Hayes, is British.

Is the lead singer of the pop group Sade which is of course her own name.

Her bandmates are Stuart Matthewmann, Andrew Hale and Paul Denham.

She was once a backup singer in a British pop group called Pride.

Attended and graduated from Clacton County High School in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

Attended Saint Martin's School of Art in London, where she studied Fashion design.

Has sold close to 40 million albums worldwide, has had six multi-platinum albums released in 20 years and has received four Grammy Awards including Best New Artist (1985).

Her album "Diamond Life" won the British Phonographic Industry Award for British Album (1985).

Her name Sade is pronounced "Shar-day".

Has an older brother named Banji.

She moved to the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, to the countryside where she bought a run-down stone-built cottage near Stroud to renovate with her partner Ian Watts (2005).

She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2002 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to the music industry.

She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to Music. She is a singer, songwriter and composer in London, England.
