Rapid transformation, displacement, and migration made it a place of memory, longing, nostalgia, fiction, and speculation. Its proximity to the Bhitarkanika crocodile reserve, mangrove forests, and Gahirmatha Beach (home to Olive Ridley Turtles) magnifies its potential for post-human or non-human climate fiction and speculations. Satabhaya might turn into a wildlife sanctuary, an underwater habitat, or a perfect ‘horror vacui’ for cartographers. Its dynamic ecologies tell many complex climate stories, revealing an inherent ‘queering’ process that is underway. The video examines all migratory forms in a particular environment disaster site – unfolds Sataybhaya and Bagapatia through amateur archives, personal memories, and maps. It speculates Satabhaya’s topography, demography, geopolitics, culture, and future. This musical work has converted interviews, testimonies, field notes, and a critical voice-over into Daskathia folk songs and dance. The video is part of the project ଭାତ ଭୋକ ଦୁଃଖ (Rice Hunger Sorrow).
