  • 简介:The abandoned village of Satabhaya was periodically submerged in the Bay of Bengal due to repeated tsunamis, cyclones, rising sea levels, land erosion, and sand deposition. Rapid transformation, displacement, and migration made it a place of memory, longing, nostalgia, fiction, and speculation. Its proximity to the Bhitarkanika crocodile reserve, mangrove forests, and Gahirmatha Beach (home to Olive Ridley Turtles) magnifies its potential for post-human or non-human climate fiction and speculations. Satabhaya might turn into a wildlife sanctuary, an underwater habitat, or a perfect ‘horror vacui’ for cartographers. Its dynamic ecologies tell many complex climate stories, revealing an inherent ‘queering’ process that is underway. The video examines all migratory forms in a particular environment disaster site – unfolds Sataybhaya and Bagapatia through amateur archives, personal memories, and maps. It speculates Satabhaya’s topography, demography, geopolitics, culture, and future. This musical work has converted interviews, testimonies, field notes, and a critical voice-over into Daskathia folk songs and dance. The video is part of the project ଭାତ ଭୋକ ଦୁଃଖ (Rice Hunger Sorrow).
